The story revolves around a love triangle with a sharp critique of extreme casteism. It opens with a powerful scene, introducing us to politician Narayana, a man obsessed with upholding his caste's pride, no matter the cost.
Narayana's daughter, Sweccha, elopes for love, setting off a chain of events that brings our four wastrel friends into the picture. The film promises a blend of quirky characters, clever backstories, and eccentric situations, with a unique romance unfolding at a spoken English class.
But here's where it gets controversial: the film's attempt to balance humor and social commentary falls short. The writing lacks the spark needed to ignite the humor, and the characters, especially Sweccha, feel like mere plot devices. Her love story, though intriguing, leaves us wanting more depth and perspective.
While the self-aware comedy around the debt-ridden friends has its moments, the overall tone feels flat. The deadpan humor becomes tiresome, and several actors seem unsure of the right pitch.
There are glimpses of the hilarious ride the film could have been, like the comedy surrounding the police station in Janglipatnam and the 'pulihora' scene at the temple. However, these moments are few and far between, and the film often descends into a chaotic cacophony.
The music, a key element in recent hits like 'Little Hearts', fails to make an impact here. The desperation is palpable as the makers try to inject some energy with a song inspired by Amitabh's 'Mere Angne Mein', but it falls flat.
The popular names attached to the film, including Priyadarshi and Vennela Kishore, struggle to find their groove, possibly due to the script's shortcomings. Rag Mayur and Vishnu Oi give it their all, but the heavy lifting is left to Prasad Behara and Sathya, who bring much-needed energy to the screen.
